Sébastien Vaillant and friend Damien Bossier are the only two members of the Vignerons de Valençay co-operative, making it the smallest of its kind in the Loire and possibly in France. Their 40 hectares of vines are located on the hillsides surrounding the River Cher, and share much of the same Silex (flint) soils that make the finest Loire wines. The flint in particular imparts the characteristic mineral quality; patches of sandy/lime topsoils over very stony and clay subsoils add richness and depth.
