Chateau de Fontenille

Less than 1 km from the ancient Abbey de la Sauve Majeure where an old pilgrimage route still runs through the vineyards lie the lands of the Chateau, bought by Stephane Defraine in 1989. His domaine now includes 42 hectares, 12 put to white grapes and the rest to red on well-drained gravel/clay soils. He is passionate about Entre-deux-Mers and is president of the local Syndicat. The white is a punchy blend that is miles from the bland versions of this appellation. The red is 50 per cent barrel aged in old Chateaux Margaux barriques.
