Fifty-four year-old Alain Vironneau is the president of the CIVB (Bordeaux Wine Trade Council). Since 1984 Vironneau has managed Châteaux Majureau-Sercillan and Tarreyrots in the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations. Since 2002, Alain Vironneau has been president of the Trade Association for Bordeaux & Bordeaux Supérieur, the leading wine syndicate in France. He has become a controversial figure, leading the move at the end of 2005 for the syndicate to refuse to sell a tonneaux of wine at less than acceptable prices, even though the market price was lower.
