Tasting note
"A cooler year and this is a fabulous celebration of spice. Lovely life, lift and texture to its cinnamonedged succulent black cherry and berry fruit with liquorice. A cool clay tang lends texture and bottom to the long finish. Terrific."

Wine note
Can be cellared for 4 - 8 years. Wine made just north of Canberra, by Tim Kirk whose family settled here in 1968 and named the place after their County Clare farm - 'meadow of the little church'

Producer note: Clonakilla
Clonakilla was established in 1971 by John Kirk, a Canberra based research scientist. Clonakilla is a small, family winery dedicated to making distinctive, handcrafted wines. Their wines are made in limited quantities. They make a range of wines, but their speciality is wines made from two varieties which have their original home in the Northern Rhone valley in France: Syrah (Shiraz in Australia) and Viognier. Their flagship is a Shiraz Viognier blend. The grapes for the Hilltops Shiraz were selected from four vineyards in the Hilltops district around Young in New South Wales.

Brut Reserve, , Charles Heidsieck, £45.00 France, White
Triple gold-medal winner 2012: Gold IWC, Trophy DWWA, Gold IWSC
Class and sophistication are what Heidsieck embodies. Complex pastry aromas, with an opulent combination of ripe apricot, mango and greengages, dried fruits, pistachio and almond. The palate begins with a silky smooth sensation, developing into ripe fleshy apricot, melon and enticing plum pastry notes and delicate spice. A perfect balance of freshness and generosity.

Brut Vintage, 2009, Henners, £30.50 England, White
Biscuity, brioche aromas, with delicate white flower and full fruit. Flavours are fresh with nicely delicate citrus and apple with a 'lees' character adding complexity.
Awards:
- Decanter Silver Medal 2012 - huge potential
- International Wine Challenge Silver Medal 2012
