Cooden Cellars is an independent wine merchant established by Colin Barnes and Ian Jarman in 1997. In May 2001 we opened our retail shop in the Grand Hotel Buildings, Compton Street, Eastbourne.
We provide an extensive range of fine wines of character and distinction, all personally tasted and selected by us before offering them for sale. We have an extensive knowledge of the wines, the vineyards and the producers and also carry a number of quality wine accessories and an unrivalled range of presentation boxes and bottle carriers which are all on display in the shop. In addition to being available in our shop most of our products can be purchased on line through the shopping facility on this site. Most of our products are also available on a wholesale basis.
We offer a range of services such as selection and maintenance of wine lists as well as running staff, corporate or social wine tastings on different levels and themes. Our new Wine School offers a number of modular wine courses and our Wine Club provides specialised services for subscribed members.
We are very proud to have been selected as Small Independent Merchant of the Year 2005 as well as Regional Wine Merchant of the Year in the IWC Awards for the last three years, in 2003 and 2004 as runner-up and in 2005 outright. We thank all those who have helped us in achieving these accolades, including, of course, all our customers and suppliers.
Colin BarnesColin has been a wine merchant for over 16 years winning a number of awards as well as taking part in several wine and radio shows. "We are about quality service and the enjoyment of wine and hope we can make a unique difference to people's shopping experience."
Ian JarmanIan has been in the wine trade for 11 years and holds a Diploma from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust as well as being an Associate of the Institute of Wines and Spirits. "We want to build on what we’ve achieved and continue to add to peoples' awareness and enjoyment of wine whilst also working towards making Eastbourne in general, and Cooden Cellars in particular, a destination for wine lovers."
John MartinJohn holds an HND in Wine Studies and has 10 years wine trade experience. "I’m enjoying the opportunity to put my 10 years wine trade experience and knowledge to such excellent use in a quality-focused environment committed to bringing wine alive for people ".
